Butterfly Bush...'Black Knight'

This Buddleia davidii has deep purple panicles that appear from early Summer until late Fall. It attracts, you guessed it, butterflies! This cultivar can grow rather large up to 12 feet and up to 6 feet in width. This one is located in partial shade and requires an occasional pruning to shape it. The leaves are narrow and not very attractive but the fragrance is it's real appeal.
I have found out by experience that after a few years the root system can be extensive. Moving an established butterfly bush will require hard labor and I suggest using an axe to trim the roots. On the brightside, you may be suprised to know that off shoots may be produced by the remaining root system.

I must admit that God has intended for some things to be cherished. To see the world through His eyes is to see the exquisite possibilities that lie ahead even in the midst of uncertainty.
This image is a departure from my usual subjects, but has quickly taught me the importance of light. I must admit that this image required some editing and am thankful to have an image editor that allowed me to present it this way. Hemerocallis 'Joan Senior'
I adopted this little one last summer and so far it has adjusted quite well in the garden. It gets plenty of morning sun and some afternoon shade and is well on it's way to stardom, as you can see. The bloom is very generous, approximately 4.5 inches, but it's lifetime is limited to no more than a couple of days. Typically,
there are 3-5 blooms on a stalk.
If you are a tidy gardener you may want to clean up the spent blooms and divide it when necessary. I try not to use this specimen as a cut flower, but I thoroughly appreciate the contour of the lines and the amazing color. You cannot see it but there is a sublte white stripe down the midrib of each petal and a hint of green in the throat. Photos just don't do it justice. If you want to learn more about daylilies visit The American Hemerocallis Society and their website located at daylilies.org.

A lovely deciduous vine that seems to thrive in my area,
but is an annual. This photo shows the rich pink color that
the 3" bloom displays. I planted this little fella in a container
and used a trellis for support. I have plans to use this one in a
watercolor, someday!
