You will have to examine the image closely to see the wire (at the bottom of the photo) it is hidden but plays a powerful role in the composition. Matrix Metering and Aperture Priority were used to capture the subjects.

This is a lovely single petaled miniature rose. I am not sure of the name but I will look into it and add it later if I find the plant tag. This plant is 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide and located in partial sun. There seems to be no fragrance so if that gives you any clue, please leave me a comment if you think you may know what it is.

Sometimes you have to have vision to make an ordinary subject standout from it's counterparts. To me, this image is a lot more interesting without the color as I do have a fancy for grayscale. Another note about this image, it was taken using Aperture Priority with a -.60 exposure bias.

The Fairy is a lovely rose that I added to my garden a few years ago. I have enjoyed the small pink 1 1/2" rosettes that are held in numerous clusters on the 3 foot bush. I have it placed in full sun with 2 other floribunda bushes and a climber (Iceburg and Queen Elizabeth) and it has performed well in spite of my neglect. This summer I have noticed that it has a touch of Blackspot but, I do not intend to spray it. In fact, the Japanese Beetles have really been the pest that has done the most damage and to curb their appetite I usually sprinkle Sevin Dust to inhibit them. The cut flowers do not last as long as some of the others I have but I enjoy them just the same. The image has been cropped.

Here is the edited version that displays the silhouette of the cross. I felt the need to give you the image in it's original form and then with shadow. Each image conveys a different mood but, in my opinion both are special.

A brief note about this image: I happened to stumble upon this cross at the Trinity Lutheran church as I was running errands through town one evening last week. I have often admired it from a distance but have never visited the church. The cross is a powerful symbol of love, suffering, healing and faithfulness which for me, will make it a recurring subject. The resolution is somewhat smaller because I cropped out what I thought was extraneous. I hope that the essence of the picture is still conveyed.

Isn't it amazing the images that you can capture between daylight and nightfall? I have found that the best time is 30-45 minutes before sunset and at daybreak. I have also learned that you really have to be prepared when the moment is right otherwise an image can escape you very quickly.

This image was taken using exposure bracketing, which I have found to be very useful. The exposure bias of this image is -0.3 at a +/-0.3 bracketing interval. My intent for most images is to display them in their original state without the use of editing but at times it is a necessary evil. In fact, I did warm the colors to render this photo as I had seen it through my lens. My hope is that you may enjoy it as much as I do.
